Registered Nurse

The Nursing Officer of the Day (NOD) demonstrates leadership after hours to ensure the continuity of services associated with administrative functions and patient care for the medical center. Per medical center memorandum (MCM) 00-15, Succession of Authority, the NODs are designated to coordinate and direct all necessary operations for ensuring the provision of safety, quality of care, treatment, and services during irregular hours. OTHER DUTIES:
Assess patient care requirements on each unit, by making rounds in all patient care areas of the hospital and develops and implement staffing plan for tour based on patient acuity, patient census and available staff. Ensures creative staffing and minimizes overtime (OT) usage. (2) Serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems. Has in-depth knowledge of hospital policies and procedures, nursing competency level, and maintains Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications. Utilizes great communication and transparency with decision making, promotes consistency and fairness with all actions take in the NOD role. (3) Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing resources to meet patient care requirements and other professional responsibilities. (4) Respond to emergency situations (Rapid Response Team RRT , Code Blue) oversees process, documents, and assists as necessary. (5) Act as a resource in identifying and/or solving administrative/operational problems. (6) Anticipate actual/potential problems that may occur on their shift and sets shift priorities accordingly. (7) Work collaboratively with nursing and ancillary staff to solve problems in a fair, consistent manner. (8) Contact representatives of departments not presently in the hospital for assistance with problem solving issues that arrives during irregular hours, in a timely and appropriately. (9) Act as a resource, interprets and ensures adherence to Lebanon Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center nursing philosophy and medical center policies and procedures. (10) Report to executive leadership any significant incidents and problems such as:
(a) Unusual patient or family problems or concerns (b) Physician concerns (c) Major damage or utility outages (d) Security problems (e) Public relations or media events (f) Any disasters (g) Matters of legal importance (h) Safety issues (11) Obtain materials/supplies from Sterile Processing Service (SPS), cache', and/or any other departments for patient care, when those departments are not open, or call in staff to provide assistance (i.e., pharmacist on call, FITS, etc.). (12) Provide support, guidance and feedback to staff:
(a) Contribute to evening, night and weekend staff performance evaluations. (b) Identify and communicate staff needs for continuing education to unit nurse managers (NMs). (c) Assist staff to interpret change in a positive manner. (d) Assist staff to provide a safe work environment for patient care. (e) Assist physicians and staff in admission criteria for assigning admission status to patients (observation/admission) Work Schedule:

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. The population of male and female Veterans served ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
