4 EAST is the medical-surgical unit which provides care to adults who are hospitalized with a wide variety of conditions, including pneumonia, stroke, and fracturesWe also see behavioral health patients and serve the hospice populationOur team also prepares patients for surgical procedures and provides post-surgical care required until the time of dischargeThe Medical Surgical floor has the ability to care for 25 patients requiring telemetryThe goals of the medical surgical unit staff are to provide efficient, quality, individualized and comprehensive nursing care to all patients.

Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, provides professional nursing care at the beginner practitioner level in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospitalActs as a primary nurse for patients on the unitCoordinates care planning with other disciplinesMay require specialized skills depending on unit assignment.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvides and coordinates direct care in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospitalActs as a primary nurse for patients on the unitSynthesizes patient data to develop outcome-driven plans.
Safely and independently administers prescribed treatments, medications, and nursing interventions based on assessment and plan of care.
Appropriately organizes and prioritizes time based on patient condition and expected workloadIdentifies changes in patients status and acts accordinglyKnows and can activate resources to achieve outcomes for patients.
Seeks mentoring and coaching from the CN II & III.
Identifies and communicates individualized patient needs for safe handoffs during transitions of careCollaborates with patient/family in care planning with all disciplines.
Appropriately and correctly documents the patient response to interventions and progress toward outcomesIdentifies and documents variancesAppropriately utilizes flow sheets, progress notes, and/or electronic medical record for documentationIs able to identify system and unit-based nursing sensitive indicators; i.

Identifies own areas of professional growth and development in performance improvement effortsRecognizes the value of evidence based research as it applies to best practice.
